OSX Update Kernel Panic

how to fix your update when getting kernel panics

On my work Mac, the updates are forced, but upgrading from 15.3.1 to 15.7 kept giving me kernel panics. This is the guide on how I fixed it.

It turns out that macOS offers the option to update via the terminal, so I got to work.

  1. First, we retrieve all available installers:

  2. Choose the version you want and download it:

    softwareupdate --fetch-full-installer --full-installer-version 15.6.1
    Scanning for 15.6.1 installer
    Install finished successfully

  3. The installer will start on your Mac.

  4. Wait for it to finish and then skip versions as needed.

  5. Now I just need to jump to 15.7 and then possibly to Tahoe.
